How Much Does A Metal Carport Cost?
Metal carport prices are driven by six things: width, length, leg height, roof style, gauge of steel,
and the wind/snow certification required in your county. A 12' × 21' regular style carport is our
entry-level unit; a large vertical roof triple wide with 12-gauge framing and closed sides sits at the top
of the range. Because pricing and certification requirements change by state, live prices are shown on each
style page — select a roof style above, then choose your state to see the exact delivered and installed price.
Ways To Lower Your Carport Price
- Choose the Regular Style roof if curb appeal is not a priority.
- Stay at or below 36' long so a vertical roof upgrade is not required.
- Keep standard 6' legs unless you need RV or equipment clearance.
- Install on level ground with anchors instead of pouring a slab.
- Order gable ends or side panels now instead of retrofitting later.
Metal Carport Options & Upgrades
- Additional leg height up to 16' for RVs, dump trailers, and tractors.
- Gable ends for added strength and a finished, home-matching look.
- Partial side panels to block blowing rain, sun, and snow.
- Ground-to-roof closed walls on one side, both sides, and/or the back end.
- 12-gauge galvanized steel frame upgrade from the standard 14-gauge for higher snow loads.
- 26-gauge roof panel upgrade from the standard 29-gauge.
- Helical or asphalt anchors for certified installation on ground or asphalt.
- Roll-up garage doors, walk-in doors, and windows when enclosing all or part of the structure.
- 14 color choices for roof, walls, and trim.
- Higher wind and snow ratings to satisfy local building codes.
We also build fully custom configurations — off-center doors, roll-up doors on the sidewall,
lean-tos, and non-standard widths and lengths. See our
Metal Carport FAQ
for specifications, permit information, and site-prep instructions.
Certified Steel Carports: Wind & Snow Load Ratings
Standard certification on our metal carports is 140 MPH wind / 25 PSF snow load, with upgrades
available to 170 MPH / 65 PSF for coastal, high-wind, and heavy-snow regions. Certification is
based on installation over concrete with a proper footing, or on the use of optional helical ground anchors or
asphalt anchors into a suitable surface. Certified engineered drawings are available when your county requires
them for a building permit — just tell us your job-site address when you order.

Metal Carport FAQs
What is the difference between a regular, boxed eave, and vertical roof carport?
A regular style carport has rounded barn-style corners with roof panels running horizontally from
front to back, and it is the most economical option. A boxed eave carport has an A-frame roof line that
looks more like a house and can be built with horizontal or vertical panels. A vertical roof carport has
panels running from the peak down to the eaves plus 18-gauge hat-channel purlins, making it the strongest
style and the best choice for snow, long buildings, and RV covers.
How wide can a metal carport be?
Our free-standing metal carports are available from 12 ft. to 30 ft. wide. Units 12'–24' wide are
considered standard single and double wide carports, while 26', 28', and 30' wide units are triple wide
carports built with a single truss so there are no interior posts.
How long can a metal carport be?
Regular Style and Boxed Eave Style carports are priced here from 21' to 36' long. Vertical Roof Style
carports are available from 21' to 101' long, whether single-wide or triple-wide, and any
structure over 36' long must be built as a Vertical Roof Style for proper strength and water runoff.
Custom lengths in between are available by request and are priced at the next size up.
Do I need a concrete slab for a metal carport?
No. A carport can be installed on level ground, gravel, asphalt, or concrete. Concrete gives the
strongest anchoring and is required for certification in some jurisdictions, but helical ground anchors
and asphalt anchors are available and are included with installation on the appropriate surface.
Is delivery and installation really free?
Yes. The listed price includes free delivery, installation, and anchoring on your level ground or
concrete slab within our service area. If your site needs leveling, that work must be completed before
the crew arrives. Local sales tax applies and warranty terms vary by manufacturer and region.
How long does it take to get a carport installed?
Lead time depends on your state, the season, and the complexity of your build. Simple carports in
areas near one of our ten plants are often installed in a few weeks, while custom and fully enclosed
buildings take longer. Call 1-800-324-5315 for the current lead time in your area.
Do I need a permit for a metal carport?
Permit requirements are set by your city or county, not by us. Many rural areas do not require a
permit for an open carport, while most municipalities do. We can supply certified engineered drawings
for your wind and snow zone when your building department requires them.
Can a carport be turned into an enclosed garage later?
Yes. All three roof styles use the same base frame system, so sides, ends, walk-in doors, windows,
and roll-up doors can be added later to create a
fully enclosed metal garage.
Ordering the enclosure up front is usually less expensive than retrofitting.
What size carport do I need for an RV?
Most travel trailers and fifth wheels fit under a 12'–18' wide carport with 12'–14' legs,
while a Class A motorhome typically needs 14'–16' of leg height and 31'–101' of length. A
30' wide triple wide lets you park an RV plus two vehicles side by side. We recommend the vertical roof
style for all RV covers.
